Aaron Boone provides crucial update on Jazz Chisholm Jr. amid Yankees injury crisis

The New York Yankees have been dealing with injuries all season. On Thursday night, Jazz Chisholm Jr. gave them another scare, and Aaron Boone had to address it.

The cramp scare came at a bad time. The Yankees have been short-handed for weeks. Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton and Trent Grisham have all spent time on the injured list this season. Losing Chisholm, even briefly, would add significant pressure to an already stretched lineup.

Yankees beat reporter Bryan Hoch reported on X on July 31 that Chisholm left Thursday's game dealing with cramps.

Aaron Boone, the manager of the New York Yankees, told reporters after the game that the team's trainers do not believe it is a major issue, according to the X report.

Chisholm, 28, won the 2025 Silver Slugger Award. In the 2026 season, he is batting .225 with 12 home runs, 33 RBIs, and 26 stolen bases in 85 games. He had a slow start and was batting only .173 with a .498 OPS on April 23.

Since May, he has played much better, batting .245 with a .323 on-base percentage and a .465 slugging percentage, along with 12 home runs. His wRC+ during that time is 119.

This is not the first injury concern for Chisholm in 2026. In June, he collided with Jasson Dominguez while trying to catch a fly ball during a game against the Detroit Tigers. He was placed in concussion protocol, but manager Aaron Boone later said that Chisholm did not have a concussion.

Earlier that month, a foul ball hit Chisholm in the groin during a game against the Chicago White Sox, and he had to leave the game.

Boone’s update on Thursday was more positive than the earlier injury situations, and the trainers felt more hopeful about Chisholm’s condition.

In July 2024, the Yankees put Chisholm on the injured list because of a UCL injury in his left elbow.

In 2023, when he was with the Miami Marlins, Chisholm had surgery on his right big toe. The problem has bothered him from time to time since then. During the July 4 weekend this year, he left a game against the Minnesota Twins because of pain in that toe.

Boone confirmed X-rays were negative and he was expected to be reevaluated days later.

Boone's update after Thursday's game confirmed trainers are not treating the cramp as a serious concern.
