Complete Team Performance Puts Yankees Back on Track, Boone Celebrates

Apr 28, 2026, 1:30 PM CUT

The New York Yankees secured their fifth straight series-opening win with a 4-2 victory over the Texas Rangers. Manager Aaron Boone praised the balanced performance at Globe Life Field as the team regained its winning momentum.

Max Fried (4-1) set the tone early through six scoreless innings. "The couple of times where they pressured him a little bit and extended some at-bats against him, he was able to, you know, execute some big pitches," Aaron Boone said after the win.

Fried responded by neutralizing the likes of Corey Seager, whom he struck out three times. In the fourth, Fried ended a potential rally by picking off Josh Jung, his MLB-best 38th pickoff since 2017.

Ben Rice also stood out with a two-run homer to the opposite field off Jack Leiter, and Trent Grisham scored. This was Rice's 10th home run of the season, briefly tying him for the team lead before Aaron Judge shot his next just moments later.

"Ben's off to an amazing start. Judgie... ho-hum, 11 homers already. I mean, and really, you know, maybe his best game of at-bats tonight where, you know, he's on all four times, stings two doubles, smokes the homer where he just rides out the curveball," said Aaron Boone.

Jazz Chisholm Jr. added another run with his solo homer in the fourth. After going homerless in his first 23 games, Chisholm recorded three home runs in his last five appearances.

What's next in the Yankees-Rangers series?

The Rangers attempted a late-game comeback, but eventually lost 4-2. The Yankees will look to extend their winning streak while the Rangers will look for their first win in the series on Tuesday, April 28, at Globe Life Field.

New York's Cam Schlittler (3-1, 1.77 ERA) is slated to start against the Rangers ace Jacob deGrom (2-0, 2.13 ERA).

Schlittler has put up stellar stats so far this season, recording 41 strikeouts in 35.2 innings. In his last game against the Red Sox, he allowed only one earned run in eight innings.

Meanwhile, Rangers' Jacob deGrom has shown promise since his return from injury. In his last start against Pittsburgh, deGrom struck out 10 batters in just 5.6 innings.
