The Los Angeles Dodgers are the best team in baseball once again, and the Philadelphia Phillies only have themselves to blame for it.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, the Phillies had runners on second and third base with one out. However, what happened next cost them the game as they ran into a game-ending double play in a brutal base-running display.
The game was already delayed due to rain, starting at 8:00 pm local time, 80 minutes after it was initially slated to.
While the delay did not seem to impact the Phillies at the start, their late blunder helped the Dodgers take a 2-1 win and reclaim the best record in MLB at 64-38.

The Phillies struck first in the bottom of the first inning in credit to a pair of two-out hits from Bryce Harper and Alec Bohm.
However, that was more or less the end of the Phillies' firepower, as Dodgers pitcher Justin Wrobleski settled down and did not let them score the rest of the way.
Meanwhile, Eliezer Alfonzo Jr. broke out in the top of the third inning on a double for the Dodgers. He was starting in place of Dalton Rushing.
Then came Shohei Ohtani, who followed up with a single. But even he was thrown out while advancing to second base. The Dodgers' attack was neutralized as Alfonzo didn't touch home plate before Ohtani was tagged out, leading the Dodgers not to put up a run.
Fortunately for the Dodgers, Andy Pages led the fourth inning off with a single, while Max Muncy hit a two-run home run, his 228th as a Dodger, to give Los Angeles a 2-1 lead.
The Dodgers pass the Milwaukee Brewers, who are 63-38 after losing to the New York Mets.
How the New York Yankees Fare
The Yankees recently went toe-to-toe against the Dodgers in two games, both ending in 2-1 with each team taking a piece.
However, the Dodgers also dismantled the Yankees 8-2 in the second game, which only raises further questions regarding their pitching.
Following their series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, which they are leading, the Yankees will face the Phillies from July 25 to July 27 in another three-game series. The Yankees will have Max Fried back as well.
