4-3 Loss Ends Yankees' Hopes; Brewers Take Series

New York Yankees hold a mound meeting with starting pitcher Carlos Rodon after Rodon gave up three runs in the third inning against the Los Angeles Dodgers in game two of the MLB, Baseball Herren, USA World Series at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, October 26, 2024. After getting shut out 6-0 on Friday night, the Yankees manager, Aaron Boone, said, "Obviously, we saw a great fastball last night on the other side with Misiorowski. They’re going to see one tonight from Cam[Schlittler]," before Game 2.

They got that better start from the starter Cam Schlittler. The Yankees got beaten 4-3 by the Milwaukee Brewers in 10 innings at American Family Field, marking their first series loss since an April sweep by the Rays.

Schlittler took a 108.5 mph line drive off his leg in the first inning, stayed in the game, and kept going as if nothing happened. He went six scoreless innings, allowed just two hits, did not walk a batter, and struck out six.

Paul Goldschmidt gave New York an early lift with a leadoff homer and later added an RBI single to make it 2-0. By the time Schlittler left, the Yankees looked in control. New York's lead was erased across the seventh and eighth innings.

Brent Headrick opened the seventh, and Jake Bauers hit his first pitch 420 feet for a solo homer. In the eighth, Camilo Doval could not hold the line either. Brice Turang singled, stole second, and scored on a William Contreras hit to tie the game.

New York got the edge again in the 10th when Ryan McMahon singled home a run to make it 3-2, but the lead did not last long. The bottom of the 10th turned into a mess for the Yankees.

Fernando Cruz let the automatic runner move up on a wild pitch. Then Jackson Chourio tied the game with an infield single. Tim Hill came in next and bounced a throw wildly to third, loading the bases. Contreras finished the job with a sacrifice fly to right, and Milwaukee walked off with the win.

Aaron Ashby got the win for the Brewers after pitching the final two innings.

So What's Next In This Series?

The Yankees (26-14) look to avoid a sweep on Sunday against the Brewers (21-16), who clearly have the momentum after two back-to-back wins.

They will send Carlos Rodón to the mound for his scheduled season debut. Rodón has been sidelined since October 15, 2024, following surgery to remove loose bodies in his left elbow.

Rodón posted an 18-9 record with a 3.09 ERA and 203 strikeouts over 195.1 innings in 2025. In his final rehab start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 5, Rodón allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits in 6.1 innings.

Milwaukee will start with Logan Henderson (0-1, 4.50 ERA). Henderson, the Brewers' No. 6 prospect, has been dominant in Triple-A Nashville. He had a 2-0 record, a 1.02 ERA, and 26 strikeouts in 17.2 innings in the minor leagues.
