Quinn Mathews was through six innings of no-hit baseball and Alec Burleson extended his major league-leading RBI total as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the San Francisco Giants 2-1 on Monday night.

Mathews (2-3) retired the first 10 batters he faced before walking Bryce Eldridge in the fourth and allowed a hit for the first time when Grant McCray doubled leading off the sixth. The 25-year-old rookie left-hander struck out eight and allowed a run on four hits and two walks in 6 2/3 innings, the longest of his seven major league starts.

Ryne Stanek left two runners on base in a scoreless eighth and Riley O'Brien induced Christian Koss to hit into a groundout with runners on second and third to earn his 37th save in 45 chances. Thomas Saggese singled with one out in the fifth off Giants starter Landen Roupp (9-14) and stole second.

Ivn Herrera drew a walk to remove Roupp, and Burleson singled on Reiver Sanmartin's first pitch to extend his major league-leading hits in runners in scoring position to 61 and RBI total to 110.

Burleson went to third on a wild pitch and scored on Bernal's single. Bernal had three of the Cardinals' eight hits, while Burleson and Saggese each had two. Jonah Cox singled home McCray in the sixth, but Bernal caught Cox attempting to steal for the second out and Mathews struck out Eldridge to preserve the one-run lead.

Justin Bruihl replaced Mathews with two outs and the bases loaded in the seventh and got McCray to ground out to end the threat.
