The Yankees keep finding ways to win despite mounting injuries. On Wednesday, they steamrolled the White Sox 10-5, winning consecutive games, which was also their ninth victory in the last 11.
While the Yankees await Aaron Judge, Max Fried, Giancarlo Stanton, and Trent Grisham's return, they appear to be doing just fine without their star players.
In their recent clash against the White Sox, Cody Bellinger, Paul Goldschmidt, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. homered to lead the Yankees to a phenomenal victory.
“I think we all understood that a lot of our guys are out, and we have to do what we can to continue to win games. “No excuses. We’re playing well right now.” Bellinger said, as per MLB.com.
Their latest win marked their ninth victory since losing Aaron Judge to a bone bruise, extending their AL East lead to 3.5 games. Yankees skipper Aaron Boone was pleased, saying that every member of the roster is making a "meaningful contribution."
“When everyone’s playing a role, and you’re getting meaningful contributions from everyone, it leads to good times and good vibes,” manager Aaron Boone said.
“You love it that way. You’re going to go through your challenging moments, so you try to embrace this and keep it going as best you can.”
Meanwhile, Carlos Rodón kept his former team's lineup in check, pitching five innings and allowing seven hits and three earned runs while striking out seven. His only blemish was a three-run homer from Colson Montgomery.
“I’m just trying to go out there and attack the zone, try to get outs,” Rodón said. “Just try to keep us ahead and go as deep as I can.”
Are Reinforcements on the Way? Spencer Jones Shows Promise
While the hotshots are out, Spencer Jones is making a case for the Yankees as a reliable player at the plate. Take the Tuesday outing against the White Sox as an example.
After a crushing 111.6 MPH homer in the first at-bat, Jones showed patience in the next at-bat, drawing a walk in the third innings to keep the Yankees’ offense rolling.
“Since coming back this last time, it’s gotten even better. It’s been game in and game out. I feel like he’s really putting together quality at-bats. Obviously, you know the power is real,” said Aaron Boone as per NYPost.
Jones’ first outing at the Majors back in May was indeed challenging. Over the 10 games, he collected four hits in 24 at-bats with three walks and 12 strikeouts, but it must be noted that he faced tough teams, and he got the taste of what an actual game feels like.
Since rejoining the Yankees earlier this month as a replacement for Aaron Judge, Jones has been averaging .318 (7-for-22) with a 1.059 OPS, two homers, four walks, and nine strikeouts across eight games.
