Rival Watch: Cleveland Calls Up Australian Prospect Travis Bazzana in AL Central Race

In the middle of the MLB season, the Cleveland Guardians have reportedly called up their former No.1 overall pick, Travis Bazzana, to camp, adding the second baseman to their already strong offensive lineup.

The 23-year-old will be joining the team after he decimated his opponents in 24 games at Triple-A Columbus, hitting .287/.422/.511 with 18 runs and eight stolen bases in 24 games. Bazzana was drafted out of Oregon State in 2024, and since then, he has continued proving his worth.

Now, after earning the call-up, he is expected to replace the inconsistent Juan Brito in the platoon, while Daniel Schneemann continues swinging a hot bat. Bazzana is expected to split time with Schneemann.

Heading into 2026, Travis Bazzana has earned recognition across every major prospect ranking, sitting at No. 22 on Baseball America, No. 16 on MLB Pipeline, and No. 24 on Baseball Prospectus.

After a brutal losing streak, the Cleveland Guardians call up Travis Bazzana

Right now, the Cleveland Guardians are 15-15 and sit second in the AL Central, just behind the Tigers. On paper, the team looks solid with a respectable record, but the underlying concern is that they have lost three straight games after losing their series against the Blue Jays.

In their last three games, they have managed just seven runs, and the offense appears to be crumbling a bit. With that said, Bazzana arrives as a replacement with much bigger firepower. This season, the 23-year-old has already blasted two home runs and 10 RBIs across his first 14 games.

Given that, he is expected to arrive at the Progressive Field on Tuesday, April 28, ahead of Cleveland’s second game against the Rays.
