Trout Heads to the IL; Supporters Say This Happens Every Season

Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout (27) is being walked during the ninth inning against Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

Mike Trout once again landed to the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain before the Angels Thursday game against the Athletics.

Trout, who hasn't played in more than 82 games in a season more than twice since winning his third AL MVP award in 2019, was in the middle of a resurgent season.

Through the team’s first 75 games this season, Trout had played 74 games. He was hitting .234/.394/.472 with 17 home runs, 12 doubles, 7 stolen bases and 36 RBIs. With 54 runs scored he wasx leading the American Leage and with 66 walks he was second in the league.

On X, @samblum confirmed the news, "NEWS with @Ken_Rosenthal: Mike Trout is headed to the IL with a hamstring injury, sources tell @TheAthletic. Brutal news for Trout with ASG upcoming and a comeback season in the works. Christian Moore is getting the call-up."

Yet, just as a sense of normalcy the injury return and the fans are frustrated about it.

This time, the injury happened when Trout was running to first base in the Angels’ 8-1 loss to the Diamondbacks. The 3x MVP said he felt the pull while running in the eighth inning. He first thought it might just be a cramp, but an MRI later showed the strain.

“From last night to today, it’s a night-and-day difference, so that’s positive for me,” Trout told reporters.

“I was a little worried last night, but had a plane ride and just sitting down after playing, so that kind of came into effect. But feels way better today, so I’m not overly concerned about it. But I’m going to do everything I can in that training room and the weight room to get back.”

When some people points Trout’s aggressive play style in a blowout game, Angels manager Kurt Suzuki came to his superstar's defense.

“It was a fluky thing that happened,” Suzuki said. “How can you tell a guy not to play hard? That’s how Mike is wired, whether it's 8-1, 14-1. That’s what makes Mike Mike. He plays the game hard. He sets the example for everybody.”

However, fans were also not much happier about it.

Fan reaction to the Mike Trout's injury

With the injury news comes out, the initial reactions from the fan was a mix of heartbreak and grim acceptance.

One fan wrote, “What else is new? I knew he would be injured, probably won’t see you until next season.”

The reaction comes from a fan base that has watched Trout lose over three full seasons of playing time since 2017.

“Is this really news at this point it’s just a matter of when not if,” added another fan in simple words.

Lets take a look at the Mike Trout's injury window. In 2021, a Grade 2 right calf strain limited him to just 36 games. A T5 costovertebral back dysfunction restricted him to 119 games in 2022.

Then in 2023, he played only 82 games with a left hamate fracture. Next year a torn meniscus in his left knee limited him to just 29 games.

That's why one fan added, “Just cannot stay healthy … no knock on Trout because of outside of his control. Just disappointed. If his body hadn’t given up on him over past few years, imagine where his total career numbers would be at. He had a chance at GOAT status for a true position player.”

From his rookie campaign in 2012 through his third MVP season in 2019, Trout averaged 9.01 WAR in every season and finished in the top two of AL MVP voting in seven of those eight seasons.

“Come on bro can not, please. Hasnt been the the ASG in like 10 years cause of injuries,” added one fan.

In the 2026 ballot, Trout had collected 926,601 votes, trailing only the Yankees' Aaron Judge (977,460)(who was also sidelined on the injured list)for the starting outfield spots in the American League. Although it's too early to comment, but Trout shows his eagerness to perform after the injury.

"I really haven't thought like that,” Trout said. “Obviously, I want to play if I get voted in, but no timeline. If I put a timeline on things ... I've done that in the past and it’s just frustration whether you do hit it or don't hit it.”

This year's game is scheduled in Philadelphia, just 40 miles from his hometown of Millville, New Jersey. After missing 3 back to back season with injuries this season ASG carries significant weight for Trout.
