The first half of the 2026 MLB season is done, alongwith the All-Star Game.
The New York Yankees have had a good season, but certainly not as impactful as they would've wanted it to be, forcing them to explore roster changes.
Yankees fans have already been salivating over potential trade targets like Padres pitcher Mason Miller, Rockies catcher Hunter Goodman and Orioles catcher Adley Rutschman.
According to SI's Devon Platana, one of the trading pieces emerging from the Yankees is baseman Ryan McMahon.
The left side of the Yankees’ infield has been a weakness for the team this season, and McMahon has been their big weakness. His trade is also triggered by the fact that he makes $16 million a year.
McMahon hasn’t found himself on the favorable side of Yankees fans either. They were not ready to give him any leverage since he joined from the Rockies last season.
This season, he is just proving them right. McMahon is batting .214 with a .655 OPS. He has also recorded 26 RBIs and a 0.3 WAR in 77 games this season.
The Yankees' baseman has a fielding percentage of .963, which is currently the fourth-worst in the league, but he is the seventh-highest-paid player on the team. Next season, McMahon will make $16 million again before he becomes a free agent.
There is no better time for the Yankees to move McMahon. The hope is for a team to be desperate enough to make the move.
One of the top trade targets reacts to interest from Yankees
One of the biggest names who has been consistently linked to the Yankees in terms of trade is Mason Miller. He is one of the best pitchers in the game, and could become the missing piece in the Yankees' championship dream.
However, Miller seemed less interested in moving on from the Padres when he was asked about the potential trade to New York.
"I’m happy with the Padres and the team we have," Miller told reporters during the All-Star break per The San Diego Union Tribune. "Obviously, we haven’t played up to expectations put on us or that we had. We'll see how the rest of this month shapes up. … I’m happy with the Padres, and I’m looking forward to winning games with them."
While the Padres have had an underwhelming season, they are still a playoff contender with a 48-48 record.
Both the Padres and the Yankees have crucial questions to address by the trade deadline on Aug. 3.
