The Subway Series 2026 is finally here. The New York Yankees and the New York Mets are ready to renew their crosstown rivalry for the first time this season on Friday, May 15th, at Citi Field.

Series Preview

The New York Mets enter the series with an 18-25 record and are currently sitting in fifth place in the NL East. The Mets struggled throughout the opening months of the season.

But right now, something is changing at Citi Field. The Mets swept the Detroit Tigers to get their first sweep of the season just before the Subway Series.

Cam Schlittler

Meanwhile, the Yankees are a much better team by the numbers. They have a strong 27-17 record and are in second place in the tough AL East. But they are coming into Queens after losing 5 of their last 6 games.

Key Pitching Matchups

Cam Schlittler Vs. Clay Holmes in Game 1

Schlittler has arguably been the best pitcher in the American League currently.  In his first nine starts, he has a 1.35 ERA, a 5-1 record, and has struck out 59 batters while only walking nine.

He is the first pitcher in Yankees' history since 1913 to have those kinds of numbers to start a year.

Schlittler will be countered by the Mets' Clay Holmes. The former Yankees closer has reinvented himself as a starter in Queens. Holmes enters with a 4-3 record, a 1.86 ERA, and a 1.01 WHIP.

Carlos Rodón vs David Peterson in Game 2

On Saturday, the Yankees are expected to send left-hander Carlos Rodón (6.23 ERA) to the mound as he continues to work his way back from injury. In his last outings(first this season), he lasted only 4.1 innings and allowed 3 earned runs and 5 walks against the Brewers.

Rodón will likely face the Mets’ David Peterson. Peterson has struggled this season with a 1-4 record and a 6.29 ERA.

Ryan Weathers vs Freddy Peralta in Game 3

The series finale may conclude on Sunday afternoon with another good matchup. Yankees lefty Ryan Weathers (2-2, 3.00 ERA) versus Mets ace Freddy Peralta.

Weathers, coming from a viral illness, went 6.1 innings, allowed 2 earned runs on 1 hit and 3 walks, and struck out 9 Orioles batters in his last outing. Meanwhile, Peralta has been a workhorse for the Mets, posting a 3.10 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across nine starts.

Key Offense Matchup: Who will step up?

For the Yankees, it all begins with Aaron Judge. He is chasing history again, already smashing 16 home runs this season. Right behind him is the breakout star Ben Rice.

He is having a monster year with 13 home runs and 29 RBIs. Paul Goldschmidt and Cody Bellinger are also veterans who are heating up. Goldschmidt has three home runs in his last ten games.

For the Mets, all eyes will be on Juan Soto.  Despite an ankle scare earlier in the week, Soto is active and helps the team with 5 home runs and 13 RBIs. The most exciting story in Queens, however, is rookie A.J. Ewing.

The 21-year-old outfielder made history by hitting a triple in his debut and hitting his first career homer in the Mets' 9-4 win against the Tigers.

Streaming Option

Yankees fans can watch the games on YES Network, while Mets fans can tune into SNY. Out-of-market fans can stream the game via MLB.TV. English radio coverage for all games will be available on WFAN 660 AM / 101.9 FM, and Spanish listeners can tune in to WADO 1280 AM.

So after all this, who do you think is going to win this time?
